Do You Remember?

Dates are a strange thing. When something monumental happens in your life, your first thought is that you’ll remember that momentous date forever. But as life progresses, with your career, family, significant others, those unforgettable dates are forgotten, but the day will never leave you. It isn’t a big deal…only when it comes to special occasions.

I’ve always had a knack for remembering dates. It may have something to do with my birthday being the day after Christmas, feeling forgotten, and not wanting others to feel the same way. My friends and family spend most of the month celebrating Christmas, and once it’s over, we are spent. When December 26th comes, you just want to rest, relax, and start taking all the decorations down. I’ve received many belated birthday wishes, or not at all, and I’ve even had an ex that forgot my birthday altogether!

I can always rattle off dates…family and friends' birthdays, anniversaries, and milestone moments like I’m on a game show. I can see a regular old day and recall a fond memory such as one of my big moves when I started a new job, magical moments with friends, met my husband, or one of our trips. I’ve had a friend ask me when his wedding anniversary was! I don’t write these dates down, but I should start as I grow wiser, and my memory isn’t as great as it used to be!

Not all dates need to be remembered, but it’s more important to hold the memory.

Which dates do you think are most forgotten but mean the most?
