What's in a Minnie Box Candle?

There are so many candle companies out there and we have learned a lot once we started to make our own. We want to be transparent on the products we use and support as well as share our knowledge with you. #themoreyouknow

There aren't many ingredients in a candle - it's basically wax, fragrance, a wick, and dye (which is optional).

Just like food, it's important to understand the quality of your ingredients. Although you aren't putting a candle into your body, you are allowing it to share the same air you breathe.

Wax Type: There are many other wax types out there but we use 100% natural soy wax produced from American (primarily in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana) grown soybeans, it burns longer and cleaner with minimal soot buildup. It's a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans.

Fragrance Oil: We use high-quality fragrances that won't give you a headache as not all fragrances are created equal. You get what you pay for in a sense as you might gravitate towards a lower cost candle. When we look at the label, there's no indication of the quality of fragrance or if it's 100% soy wax. We can only assume. Minnie Box uses CandleScience fragrance oils, which are a combination of natural essential oils and synthetic aroma chemicals. They are non-diluted fragrances with a strong concentrate aroma that continues on when burning the candle.

  • Essential Oils - Essential oils are pure liquids containing aroma compounds from plants (seeds, flowers, leaves, roots, and stems or bark of plants). These oils carry the distinctive scent, of the plant it was made from and are often used in perfumes, flavorings, and medicines. The only way to scent candles naturally is with pure essential oils.

  • Aroma Chemicals - Essential oils are not available for every scent when that is the case synthetic aroma chemicals are used which come in powder or liquid form. This is only used when concentrated compounds for essential oil is not available.

With that said, the cost of fragrance oils vary, so when you use high-quality fragrances, you may more. Minnie Box is very particular about the quality of fragrances and will only offer what we would also want in our home. It reflects on who we are and we only want the best.

Wick:

The wick is important and needs to work well with the type of wax. We use cotton wicks coated with natural wax, it burns nicely with soy wax. Tip: Don't forget to trim down your wick to 1/4 in. each time you light it to keep the soot away!

Phthalates

The fragrances adhere to the strict RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) standard regarding fragrance safety. Which means, Minnie Box Candles are non-toxic.

It's probably more information than you wanted to know but we wanted to be transparent and let you know what we use and how we care about the well-being of our customers. We hope you love the Minnie Box Candles as much as we do.

XO,

Minnie Box
